Give 2022 A Chance

New years are not unlike us. They come into being with a lot of baggage from the years that preceded them. It would be easy to assume 2022 will just be more of the same – more anger, more injustice, more frustration and fear.

There are a lot of people on this planet committed to the narrative that things are bad and only getting worse. They have convinced themselves change is heresy against their spiritual beliefs, their political convictions, and their way of being in this world.

Remember change in this universe is constant and natural. All the digging in our heels we can muster won’t change that. The game is not to prevent change. Rather, it’s to push change directions that feed humanity’s highest aspirations and benefit more people on this planet each and every year.

2020 and 2021 have been years of hardship and heartache for many. It would be easy to assume 2022 will simply bring more of the same. Of course that very assumption sets in motion a self-fulfilling prophecy.

What if, instead of assuming 2022 will continue 10,000 years negative energy and will perpetuate the angst of the past two years, we give it a chance. I don’t mean a chance just until it provides its first example that dystopia is at the gates. I mean a real chance, a real try.

What if we assumed this is going to be the best year we’ve had in a long time and we worked, every one of us every day, to make it so?

What then, indeed!

Wherever you are on your journey today, know that you are awesome!

2021 New Year’s Affirmations

Today’s Thought:

“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”
~ Bill Vaughn

As you look at that quote, which one fits you? If you’re in the first group, please keep that momentum flowing in your life and the world as you impact it in 2021. If you’re in the latter group, a new year is a new start. It’s a chance to ask whether that way of seeing the world is getting you where you want to go in life.

2021 promises to be an intriguing year. The divisiveness in our culture is running high. Many believe, “I have no choice. I must be at war for my ideas and my ideas must prevail 100 percent all the time.”

Such thinking doesn’t think of the well-being of all. Such thinking is eager to divide us against ourselves; a position that defeats us all, defeats our present, and defeats our future.

This not a world that has been thrust upon us. It’s a world we have chosen, even if unconsciously. We’ve dehumanized people for as little as disagreeing with us. These mindsets must not prevail in 2021 and moving forward.

Many still don’t realize, is that our minds (individually and collectively) are not separate from the world “out there”. Our thoughts are, in fact, the root system of the “tree” we see manifested as the “real” world around us. If you dig up a tree, you will find it all stems from its root system. If you dig up our world of events and experiences, you soon see it is made up of our thoughts.

The cross-currents of disempowerment will be many and vocal in this historic year. The pace of change – real and perceived – is going to pick up during this year because of the built up psychological expectations for it. That makes it more important than ever to empower your mind and think the thoughts and envision the world you desire.

I am posting New Year’s Affirmations a little early so that you can begin using them now to get your new year off to a great start. Here are 24 affirmations to get your new year off to an empowering start.

I recommend you begin the year with using either “this year” or “In 2021,” and as you get beyond the change of the year change it to “Today” or “Right now”.

  1. This year I AM the person I came to the planet to be!
  2. In 2021, I AM the change I want to see in my world!

What Kind of Year Will 2020 Be? – Day 319 of 365 Days to a Better You

We did it! After much fanfare, we’ve entered a new year and a new decade. The natural question is what kind of year will 2020 be? We don’t need a crystal ball or big data to predict the coming year.

It’s predictable because of age-old measures that will determine where you and we will be one year from tonight. This year, like every other year, will be decided by your thinking, and your acting. It will be decided by stories you tell yourself about who you are and how the world is.

It will also be decided by the collective thoughts an actions of all humanity. Will we choose bright, unlimited horizons or will we choose to relive times of darkness and repression?

No one can stand against your determination to change your personal destiny. No power can stand against our universal aspirations, if only we remain determined and committed to making them our reality.

Yes! 2020 is not up to fate. It’s up to us. Let’s get started!

Just in case no one has reminded you today, you’re awesome!

Official 2010 Affirmation – The Affirmation Spot for Thursday December 31, 2009

It’s hard to believe the new year is here. It’s also hard to believe this is the third New Year’s Eve since I began this blog two and half years ago.

For those of you who have been following along for a while, you know that the past two years I have posted an official affirmation for the coming year. In 2009, I also used the affirmation as a close to each post.

Today I am unveiling my official affirmation for 2010. I hope you will find it useful and meaningful and something you can affirm throughout the coming year.

Here are the previous two annual affirmations.

2008 Affirmation

“Who I am is not for sale at any price! I am brilliant and beautiful and a best friend to everyone who knows me. I am peaceful and happy and more successful than ever before. I am relaxed and confident and trading in my old fears on new hopes.
2008 is going to be a wonderful year for me; a year of breakthrough, options, and opportunities for new paths to follow. I am excited and ready for the challenges and the triumphs that lie ahead.
No, my self-worth, my happiness, my freedom, my unbounded optimism about what is ahead is not for sale at any price!”

2009 Affirmation

“This year I am absolutely committed to being the person I came here to be!”

2010 Affirmation

“2010 is my year! This is the year I break free. This is the year I break through! This is the year I break out!”

Breaking it down:

  • This is the year I break free – May this be the year you break free from the status quo and the inertia from your past that has been holding you back.
  • This is the year I break through – May this be the year that you push forward through the obstacles and the excuses towards the life you dream of living.
  • This is the year I break out – Once you’ve broken free and broken through, may 2010 be the year when everything breaks loose for you. We all had a wonderful example of this in 2009. Susan Boyle – the 48 year old Scottish singer – went from obscurity to international stardom practically overnight because she put herself out there and gave herself a chance.

I know 2010 can be a big year for all of us – individually and globally. Make it the year that you “break” with the past and step into your future!

Today’s affirmation is:

“I give up the old and gather its wisdom as I pursue the opportunity of the new.”

newyear.jpg2007 is about to pass away and give way to 2008. The passing of one year into the next is another manifestation of the eternal symbology of death being the source of new life.

New Year’s Eve is a day to look forward to a new year. Everyone is excited and filled with hope for a fresh start. It is also a day for reflection. In the rush forward, you may forget to appreciate the blessings and lessons gained in the passing year. I hope you will take a few moments today to reflect on the wonderful things that happened for you in 2007.

Here are a 10 ideas for remembering the good, the positive, and hopeful from 2007.

  1. Growth – think how you have grown as a person in the past year. Consider all the new things you have learned about the world, about yourself, and about this crazy journey called life.
  2. Challenges – think of the challenges you faced and overcame this year. Remember how courageous and strong you are when you need to be. Use that strength to face new challenges.
  3. Dreams – think about the dreams you dreamed this year. Continue pursuing the ones you have begun to follow. Renew your commitment to pursue the ones that never got started.
  4. Lessons learned – think about the life lessons learned or relearned in 2007. Be grateful for the benefits these lessons bring to your life.
  5. Entering people – think about the new people who came into your life in 2007. Be thankful the gift of their friendship and for the possibilities opened for the future.
  6. Exiting people – think about the people who left your life in 2007. For whatever reason, your time with them is at an end or at least a standstill. Remember the joy of your time together. Use what you learned from the relationship to be a stronger person.
  7. Career – think of all you accomplished on the job this year. Think how your career moved forward in 2007. Think about the opportunities now open to you as a result.
  8. Spirituality – think of the spiritual growth you enjoyed this year. Forgive yourself the faults and focus on how you have improved.
  9. Worries – think about the things you were worried about this time last year. How many of them actually happened? How many can you actually even remember? Let this be a lesson for the worries you hold going into 2008. Worries seem bigger than they really are. Many melt away in the heat of the day.
  10. Connection – think of the times this past year when you felt connection – to other people, to nature, to ebb and flow that is life. Remember the peace, the quietude, the knowing you experienced in those moments. Make it a goal in 2008 to bring more of those moments into your life.

For good or ill, 2007 is the most recent foundation for the rest of your life. It now has the greatest influence on the path your life is following.  If it has launched you into a future that enthralls you, bless it. If it was a difficult year, mine its gold today and move on.

We humans have this tendency to speak of “the good old days”. Stripped of the struggles and stresses of the present moment, the past always seems golden. 2007 is about to join the ranks of “the good old days”. Why not remember the good while it is still new?

Be peaceful Be prosperous
