Always Follow Your Bliss Affirmation

Today’s Affirmation:

I always follow my bliss!

joseph_campbell_4The late mythologist Joseph Campbell coined this phrase to describe his vision of what our life here on this planet is all about.

He wrote, “If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”

He presented it as a kind of simplified mission statement designed to awaken us to to remember our potential and pursue it.

Most of you had dreams at one point in your life. There was a career you dreamed of or a passion that we really wanted to pursue. At some point, you lost touch with that dream. “Reality” intervened. You started a family, you began a career, and your life became so busy that your dream began to fade away.

The more time that went by, the more unrealistic your dream appeared. You had “responsibilities” and your dream seemed a little selfish in the face of them.

Maybe the time has now come to “follow your bliss!” Maybe your life has cleared a bit and there is time to revisit your priorities, or perhaps life on the cubicle farm has become so painful that you are ready to make a change.

This article, When Offbeat Dreams Become Careers, appeared on the Yahoo! front page back in 2007. It is about people just like you who decided to follow their bliss.

You can do it just like they did! If you can’t drop everything and pursue your dream right this minute, OK. But there is nothing to stop you from reacquainting yourself with it or taking a few positive steps in preparation today. Take one step towards your bliss today and another step tomorrow. Each day you will be a bit closer to chasing your dream.

In the meantime, you might also find your days more enjoyable and fulfilling knowing that you are taking positive steps towards achieving your dream.

Find your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

Are You Aligned with Your True Power?

Today’s Affirmation:

Today and every day, life happens THROUGH me not TO me!

Sitting on breakawayAre you aligned with your true power? Many people believe that life and the world happen TO them. This is a very common and a very disempowering belief. To believe that you are acted upon by forces absolutely beyond your control, leaves you with no recourse but submission. Over time, you feel frustrated and increasingly helpless. You come to believe in luck more than action as force that governs good fortune in life.

Today’s affirmation is message to you. Hear it loud and clear. Some of your minds will immediately begin looking for the reasons why it isn’t true. I would encourage you look for the reasons why it is. What’s at stake? Nothing less than your ability to direct your life and achieve your dreams. Pretty big stakes to leave to fate.

WHAT You Seek is WHAT You Find

After-work meditationEveryone is familiar with the principle, as described in the Bible – “Seek and you will find”. This is a foundational element of applying the mind to resolving the chaotic world around us. It’s a very simple idea that seeking leads to finding.

However, there is a principle that takes that idea a step further. It is the advanced understanding that WHAT you seek is WHAT you find.

Our minds are finely tuned instruments designed to take the unmanifest chaos around us and transform it into intelligible, usable information that becomes things. Our mind registers all kinds of information all day long of which we are not consciously aware. But when we focus our mind on finding a solution to a problem, remembering something, or noticing things in our experience, we soon find those answers and things coming into our experience.

Here is a real world example. Have you ever purchased a car and suddenly noticed how many of that car are on the road? Those Ford Escapes were always there simply as part of the chaos of unresolved information because you didn’t need to know it. Now purchase a Ford Escape and suddenly you see them all over the place. You have given your mind a WHAT to seek and that is soon WHAT you begin to find in your experience.

The same idea works for goals or finding a way to achieve your dreams. Give your mind a WHAT (especially a big enough WHAT with a strong WHY) to focus on and all the HOWs that you never noticed before suddenly appear, as if by magic. They were always there. You simply hadn’t instructed your mind WHAT to seek and so it did not know WHAT to find.

This principle is simple to put into practice. Simply plant an idea, a thing, an experience into your consciousness through repetition (like an affirmation) and soon you will begin to see it coming into your experience. It’s a very intriguing detail of how our minds and our Universe work.

Examples:

Today I am noticing how kind people are to me.
Today I am finding new ways to create wealth in my life.

Create a statement like this, plant it firmly into your consciousness, and watch what happens.

The Limits of Either/Or Thinking

protest_opposing_groupsWhile I believe most people just want to get up, go to work, raise their kids, and live their lives; the messages in our world are often polarized. There seems to be an effort to turn everything into an Either/Or proposition.

Either God exists or science explains everything. Either natural cures are best and Big Pharma is evil or Big Pharma is helping people and natural cure purveyors are quacks. Either you’re Democrat or Republican, Christian, Jew, or Buddhist.

It’s no coincidence, in my mind, that Either/Or sounds a lot like the sound a stubborn donkey makes. This mindset limits our options, limits our thinking, and, worst of all, limits the progress of our civilization.

Some Either/Or people make it their life’s mission to win the argument with the opposition. Others take the shortcut of simply eliminating people who disagree. Largely, people do this based on conditioned beliefs or rigid approaches to data. They do it without ever having stood a moment in their opposition’s shoes, looked around through their eyes, and most importantly looked back at themselves to see how they look from that perspective.

I’ve had people get mad at me for suggesting they are taking away half of their freedom to vote by ALWAYS voting for one party. Often I hear a response such, “But they’re evil. They can’t be allowed to rule. The sky would fall.” I call this the divided and conquered mindset and it flows naturally from Either/Or thinking.

Have you ever attended the religious service of someone you totally disagree with? Have you ever looked at the scientific evidence that counters your religious beliefs? Have you ever actually read the political arguments of your opposition and tried to see that they’re not evil or crazy and that there are sound reasons for what they believe? If not, you might be caught in the Either/Or mindset.

Open your mind. Consider new possibilities. Don’t let other peoples’ ideas limit what is possible for you – for all of us. When you do, you’ll suddenly see that you had placed yourself in an ideological cage that had to defeat the opposition at any cost. You’ll see you can be free from the cage and that whole universes open up when you do.

Keep your eyes on the skies!

One reader wrote, “(My) mind is officially blown!”

Author Graham Hancock said, “We are a species with amnesia.” This book begins the awakening. Is it fact? Is it fiction? You decide!
