Are You an Extraordinary Thinker?

“You see yourself as average, ordinary. And there is nothing ordinary about you, Rachel.”

~Emily Griffin, Something Borrowed

world musicDo you see yourself as average, ordinary, middle-of-the-pack? A lot of people see themselves that way and are perfectly content with it. Just always know that it is a belief, not a fact. You can shift from ordinary to extraordinary any time you choose.

You are extraordinary. It’s right there beneath that ordinary facade. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. You sense that there is something extraordinary within you and you are ready to unleash it in your life and, yet, you don’t.

A big part of it is shifting your paradigms from those that support ordinariness to those that promote the extraordinary in you.

Here are 16 paradigm-shifting distinctions between ordinary mindsets and extraordinary ones. Keep these posted somewhere that you can see them during your day. When you catch yourself thinking ordinary, you can instantly change to extraordinary.

  1. Ordinary thinkers are fear-driven. Extraordinary thinkers are love-driven.
  2. Ordinary thinkers believe they are victims of fate. Extraordinary thinkers know they are choosers of destiny.
  3. Ordinary thinkers approve the status quo. Extraordinary thinkers improve the status quo.
  4. Ordinary thinkers strive to be cool. Extraordinary thinkers strive to be themselves.
  5. Ordinary thinkers are tenant farmers in the paradigms provided by others. Extraordinary thinkers are constantly planting new and exciting paradigms in their lives and in the world.
  6. Ordinary thinkers trust experts. Extraordinary thinkers listen to experts, but trust themselves.
  7. Faced with adversity, ordinary thinkers give up. Faced with adversity, extraordinary thinkers give more.
  8. Ordinary thinkers expect little and receive it. Extraordinary thinkers expect much and receive it.
  9. Ordinary thinkers employ labels. Extraordinary thinkers seek understanding.
  10. Ordinary thinkers believe in chances. Extraordinary thinkers believe in choices.
  11. Ordinary thinkers think life happens to them. Extraordinary thinkers know life happens through them.
  12. Ordinary thinkers allow their doubts to rule them. Extraordinary thinkers allow their dreams to rule them.
  13. Ordinary thinkers believe one setback can stop everything. Extraordinary thinkers know one great idea can change everything.
  14. Ordinary thinkers conceive the world as “Us” vs. “Them”. Extraordinary thinkers see only we.
  15. Ordinary thinkers are comforted by easy answers. Extraordinary thinkers dare hard questions.
  16. Ordinary thinkers conform to the tribe. Extraordinary thinkers transform the tribe.

Let us all commit to extraordinary thinking today. Ordinary thinkers become extraordinary thinkers every day. Why not you? The hero you’re waiting for is waiting for you in the mirror.

Find your bliss. Follow your bliss. Become your bliss.

We Still Have a Dream

Today’s Affirmation:

I believe in the future of humanity. I believe our species’ most prosperous, peaceful, and enlightened times are ahead. I am living my life in a way that turns that belief into reality.

mlk_washington_mallToday I am recognizing the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. As has become tradition on this blog, I am doing so by posting the video of Dr. King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech delivered August 28, 1963.

2015 was a brutal year, in many ways, for racial harmony in America. The tragic actions of a few, combined with a media all too ready to seize an opportunity to divide us, left us all wondering how we put the pieces back together and find justice, peace, and the vision to create a better future for ourselves and our children and grandchildren.

While Dr. King’s speech was aimed at the specific circumstances in The United States in the early 1960s, its message is timeless and transcendent. The speech’s contemporary appeal is attributable to universal message of hope for a better world and a better us. It dares each of to look into our hearts and measure ourselves according to a clear and powerful vision of what can be – what must become – on this planet.

I think its message is worthwhile to periodically watch, absorb, and share with those too young to remember those times and too young to yet understand our times.

It is a message that needs to be heard in Israel and Gaza, Pakistan and India, Iraq and Afghanistan, and, yes, in the halls of power in Washington, London, Moscow, Beijing, and at the UN in New York. It’s a message that needs to be heard in our homes, in our places of worship, and in our hearts.

Nothing is more certain than that the people of this planet long and deserve to be free. They long to be free to pursue their goals, their dreams in their way.

In too many places, man’s inhumanity to man remains the rule of the day. Let us – all six billion of us – heed Dr. King’s wise words. Let us create a new dream where we learn live in peaceful disagreement and a spirit of sharing rather than in mutual disrespect, anger, and conflict . Let us create a world where we work together to bring about justice.

Then, we too, can say, “Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty. We’re fee at last.”

Watch it here.

Planting Mindful Seeds

Ray originally wrote this article for EzineArticles.com in 2007.

path_in_the_woodsThere is a famous saying, “You can count the seeds in an apple, but you can’t count the apples in a seed.” Big things often have small beginnings.

Each day is a new opportunity and anything is always possible. Each day we are planting seeds in the orchard of our future. We choose whether we do it mindfully or mindlessly. If we act with wisdom, one day we will wake to find ourselves in an orchard of sweet ripe apples. If we proceed mindlessly, we may find ourselves in an orchard full of sour apples or worse a dead field. The choice is ours with each seed we plant.

The human beings now inhabiting this planet have planted many mindless seeds. The only way out of the current situation is to take today as a new day and begin planting the seeds of the future more mindfully.

Simplistic? No, simple. Naive? Naiveté is the habit of hopelessly believing in the impossible. A different world is possible if we begin tending to our orchards more thoughtfully. We arrived where we are through our choices and we can achieve something far greater if that is our choice. Compared to what we have now, how can it be anything but the first step in the right direction?

It is time for evolved people everywhere to step to the fore and move a sane and peaceful process forward where peace and not hatred is the primary crop. Some argue that peace is not possible in this world. To them, I can only say that as long as their view predominates; they will be correct. However, the moment humans are ready to accept the possibility of a peaceful world, it will become our reality.
