Changing No to Yes

yes_naysayersOne of the great misunderstandings of our moment is that so many people equate being against everything with being for something. Nothing could be further from the truth. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of treachery, violence, and manipulation to be against in this world.

We all have our fist-shaking moments, as we watch events unfold in this world to the detriment of the truth, justice, and true human freedom. It’s not enough, though.

Charting a brand new course for human destiny will require more than anger and the lazy thinking that says everything is a lie. It requires inspired, innovative thinking at level beyond what has gone before. It requires us to truly use the full potential of our minds Ir demands that we see a bigger picture until that picture grows too small and then to invent a still bigger picture.

The for-against push and pull is part of the system that keeps us trapped and mired our history to this point and it’s precisely what make us malleable to manipulation by events, the news, the government, and the forces who wish humankind ill.

Shake your fist, but don’t forget to work your mind and move your hands and feet toward a bigger future. Creative visions you can say YES to.

Patience Affirmations

sun rising meditationIt’s human nature to want tomorrow to be today and our dreams to manifest right now. We want fast and slow discourages us. Keep the faith! Today and fast does not always create the best result.

Ralph Waldo Emerson counseled, “Adopt the pace of nature. Her secret is patience.”

These are challenging words for our productivity-driven world of instant gratification. Yet, the wisdom is as sound as when the words were first written. Even more ancient encouragement along these lines comes from the Tao Te Ching. “Tao invariably does nothing, yet nothing is left undone.”

I am not saying we abandon your push to your dreams. Only that in certain parts of our journey patience is a valuable ally. Rush can create error and unhappiness. It can stress out and burn us out. Sometimes, wisdom calls for us to be patient like river wearing away the rock.

Here are some affirmations to help. Some will resonate with you, others won’t. Take what you need.

  1. With patience and an empowered mindset, even my wrong turns can lead to right roads!
  2. This stream flows to my dreams. Today I am content to be the leaf gently floating down the stream.
  3. I am ready for today to be the day, but I’m with my dreams for the long haul.
  4. Today’s patience pays tomorrow’s dividends.
  5. When pushing is wisdom, I push. When waiting is wisdom, I wait.
  6. My long-term dreams are bigger than my short-term needs.
  7. Breathing in, I accept nature’s pace. Breathing out, I see my dreams manifesting in the journey.
  8. I am strong enough to be patient.
  9. I accept what is, even as I work to change it.
  10.  My WHAT is more important than my WHEN!
  11. Today’s disappointments are the fertilizer for tomorrow’s achievements.

Monkeys in Space

In 1947, the United States successfully put the first living creatures in space – fruit flies. After that success, the American space program spent 12 years trying to send monkeys into orbit. One failure followed another. Finally, on June 1, 1959 a squirrel monkey named Miss Baker and rhesus monkey named Able were placed aboard a Jupiter rocket. The two intrepid explorers shot 360 miles into space and traveled 1700 ground miles before safely splashing down in the Caribbean Sea. They spent nine minutes in weightlessness, proving that human-like creatures could survive in space. They returned to a hero’s welcome.

Able died a few days after the flight during a procedure to remove an electrode. Baker lived 25 more years, receiving 5o,ooo thousand letters per year from school children for many years. 300 people attended her funeral in 1984.
