Three Unstoppable Forces

There really are three unstoppable forces in this world. Few would argue that the rising sun and a rushing ocean wave are overwhelming forces of nature that are impossible to stop or defeat.

Yet, add the power of your mind to the equation and many will quickly object. They point out all the times people supposedly had a determined mind and things didn’t pan out. In the simplest way of describing a determined mind, that may be true.

I wanted the promotion. I was determined to get it and I didn’t. I really wanted to go out with that person, but they turned me down. See, a determined mind is easily defeated,

Here’s my definition of a determined mind. It’s a mind that doesn’t let temporary setbacks decide the outcome. It’s a mind that takes whatever comes and turns it into fuel for the big goal. It’s a mind that never gives up and is going to find a way or make a way no matter what.

That kind of mind cannot be stopped. That kind of mind is a force of nature like the sun and the wave. That kind of mind turns defeats into fuel for bigger victories. That kind of mind learns from every experience and is better next time.

You, yes you, have that force-of-nature mind within you any time you want to unleash it to chase your dreams, better your day, or better your world.

The sooner you realize how powerful it is, the sooner you will become unstoppable and unbeatable too.

Wherever you are on your journey today, you are awesome!

Impossible Not!

The word impossible can seem daunting, even hopeless. When it’s applied to a situation in your life, it feels like your options are closed off and you might as well give up.

That is until you remember one important fact. Practically everything that’s a reality today was once considered impossible.

That was until someone decided not to believe it and took action to make it happen.

There may be some small subset of things in this universe that literally are impossible, but refuse to believe it just because the world says it’s so.

Follow your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

Tie A Knot and Hang On

One of my favorite determination and resilience quotes is by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

I’ve always loved the self-reliance, even defiance against a challenging situation the quote embodies. It counsels courage in the face of hardship.

When Roosevelt assumed office on March 4, 1933, the nation and the world were squarely in the suffocating grip of the worst depression in modern times.

There was no TV, no Internet to deliver images and multimedia messages to a downtrodden and discouraged populace. Radio was the high tech of the day and FDR had only his words and his voice to reassure a nation that we would come through the challenges.

There were millions at the end of their economic and psychological ropes during the 30s. Roosevelt frequently took on the role of motivator-in-chief.

Like so many inspiring quotes, this one has has dubious origins. In addition to FDR, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson, among others, have been credited with the quote.

While FDR is most often given credit, if he actually said it, he was likely repeating something he’d heard or read elsewhere.

The saying has been cited in print since 1919. The first known credit to FDR for the quote came in 1958. It certainly fits with many of FDR’s other notable motivational quotes.

Regardless of the source of the quote, we can all appreciate power it has to inspire us in moments of difficulty.

Seeing Opportunities in the “Roadblocks”

SEEING OPPORTUNITIES IN “ROADBLOCKS”

Today’s affirmation is:

Roadblocks are simply shortcuts to something better than I had planned.

When you hit a “roadblock” in your life…stop…wait. Often roadblocks are viewed as something negative. We don’t like our plans to be foiled and it can be pretty frustrating. However, if we can avoid the initial negative reaction, we may find that the “roadblock” is in fact a gateway to something better than we had planned.

Sometimes the things we initially view as “roadblocks” – because they interfere with our plans – are actually possibilities we had not even considered.

Today when something seems to be interfering with your plans try looking for the opportunity in it. You may find that “roadblocks” can transform into gold mines.

Just in case no one else has reminded you today, you are awesome!

grass_through_snow.jpgToday’s affirmation is:

“Difficulities are doorways to something better than I had planned.”

“The entire cosmos is made up of clashing forces and polarities, yet without this seeming conflict, the universe itself could not exist. Life is a dance of opposites that involves destruction, rebirth, pain, and joy.”

~ David Fideler

The powerful symbology is important in Fideler’s quote. We have many of familiar aphorisms that confirm this idea such as, “It’s always darkest just before the dawn,” or even that famous gym affirmation “no pain, no gain.”

It is certainly a very old and very common human concept that out of pain, difficulty, and death comes new life. The Hindus recognize this interplay in their personification of Shiva, “The God of Destruction,” who is also recognized as the “Bringer of New Birth.” The Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Naht Hanh talks about the cycle of the beautiful rose that dies, becomes garbage, and then can be used as fertilizer to grow a new rose.

For whatever reason, adversity is often the birthplace of the best things in our lives. Think about your own past. Even though you dread the pain and struggle that comes with tough times, were those times not the seeds of some of your greatest triumphs?

So, am I extolling the virtues of pain and suffering? Suggesting that you should go looking for difficulty as a kind of initiation experience leading the greater joy? No.

As the saying goes, “Into every life, a little rain must fall.” We all face the proverbial winter in our lives. Things seem bleak, lifeless, maybe even hopeless. Yet, even on the coldest day of winter, the signs of new life are only inches below the surface waiting to emerge.

This is just a reminder – in case you are experiencing one of those times right now or for when you experience it in the future – to always be looking for the spring sprouts of new life. You can count on them always being there, if only you look closely enough.  For as surely as the seasons come and go in nature, they come and go in our lives.

Hope everyone is enjoying spring in their lives today, but if not be looking for its signs.

Be peaceful Be prosperous
