Negate and Affirm: The Power of But

Today’s Thought:

Words have amazing power. When you use them well, they can power you.

The Power of ButFrom time immemorial, back through Hay, Peale, W. Clement Stone, and Wallace Wattles, it has been affirmation heresy to use any words that are perceived as negative in an affirmation. I have one thing to say about that….BUT.

Actually, the advice of all these affirmation gurus is not wrong. What they have taught is word your affirmations in a way that affirms what you want not a negative you don’t want. Example: I am winning rather than I don’t want to lose. BUT

Many years ago, when I started using and writing affirmations, I noticed how powerful the wold BUT can be when used in an affirmation. I call this negating and affirming.

BUT is a very powerful word in the English language. It consciously and unconsciously negates what was said before it. You hear examples everyday and you have experienced its power. “I love you, BUT…” “You’re great at what you do, BUT…” What does that BUT do? It’s an overt negation of what you just said. It diminishes its meaning and replaces it with what you are about to say next. In these cases, it is often a criticism, BUT…

Used with an affirmation, BUT can boost the power of the affirmation. It negates the negative thought and adds power to the affirmation that comes after. You can say something positive about the issue, negative thought, or even perceived challenge, negate it with BUT, and then follow that with an affirmation to overcome it.

Examples:

Alcohol is strong, BUT I AM stronger!
Getting published is tough, BUT I AM publishing my book!
I may face setbacks, BUT I am overcoming them!

Try this. It is very powerful. Subconsciously, negating is powerful and affirming is powerful. Together they will boost your affirmations.

Follow your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

The Kansas City Royals are Winners Again

On the 27th of October in ’85
Hardly a fan is now alive
Who remembers that famous date and year

royalsWell, that’s not quite true, but you do have to be about 40 to remember the Kansas City Royals playing a significant baseball game in September. With their 3-0 shutout of the Minnesota Twins tonight at Kauffman Stadium, the revamped 2013 Royals pushed their record to 6-3.

It’s early in the season, to be sure. Yet, there is something more than an early season hot streak happening here. There is a young, talented team with veteran leadership and a new demeanor taking the field each day. There is a team showing signs of persuading a doubting fan base and touching some the glory this franchise once new – not in two years, not next year, but right now.

With a roster filled with minor league all-stars and a young bullpen that was one of baseball’s biggest surprises last year, the Royals’ leadership finally bit the bullet and went out and obtained some legitimate major league starters in the off-season. The early polls are in and this writer is projecting victory.

Because I am old enough to remember, I recall the 1984 Royals that sneaked into an unexpected division title with a veteran line up and some young gun arms. A year later that team would go all the way, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in a thrilling seven-game series and topping off a decade-long run of excellence. Times have been lean since. This year’s team has veteran arms and a young offense ready to emerge into its prime. I’m not sure if this team will be 1984 or 1985, but it is going to be good.

It’s early, but I am ready to make my Royals prediction for this year. Barring significant injuries, this team will go 90-72 and be in the hunt for at least a wildcard. Have faith Royals fans. There are meaningful games coming this September.

Stay inspired!

WHAT You Seek is WHAT You Find

Today’s Thought:

Consciously or unconsciously, we attract what we are seeking into our lives.

Everyone is familiar with the principle, as described in the Bible – “Seek and you will find”. This is a foundational element of applying the mind to resolving the chaotic world around us. It’s a very simple idea that seeking leads to finding.

However, there is a principle that takes that idea a step further. It is the advanced understanding that WHAT you seek is WHAT you find.

Our minds are finely tuned instruments… read the rest of the article.
