Happy Star Trek Day – How Has Star Trek Positively Shaped Your Life?

TODAY’S QUESTION: WHAT POSITIVE IMPACT HAS STAR TREK HAD ON YOUR LIFE?

So, I know this question won’t resonate with everyone in the group. For those that it does resonate with, and you know who you are, what positive impact has Star Trek had on your life?

MY STAR TREK STORY

My story with Star Trek goes back to my earliest days back in the 1960s. I vaguely remember watching the last couple of seasons in the TOS original run. Then, fortunately, it went into reruns in Kansas City almost immediately on our UHF station.

That ran on late Saturday afternoons and I would stop what I was doing to go inside and watch Star Trek.

When Next Generation came along in the late 80s, it became and remains my all-time favorite television series. I hung on through DS9 & Voyager and then life intervened.

It was only years later that I doubled back and realized what a great series Enterprise actually was and have since consumed the newer series in real time.

For me, Star Trek has always been about Gene Roddenberry’s positive vision for humanity.

1) That there will be a time when humanity will set aside the worst in us and aspire to the highest in us.
2) That there will come a time, beyond our current economic models, where technology will abolish human need.
3) That there will come a time when humanity joins the family of advanced spacefaring cultures that likely populate the galaxy around us.

Roddenberry’s vision came about only after humanity self-destructed and rose again from those ashes. It has always been an remains my hope that we can reach these lofty goals without suffering through that fate.

More than anything, Star Trek taught me, from a very early age, to dream big both for myself and for our species. That vision has and continues to profoundly shape my world view. It has many times girded me against the impulse to turn cynical, give up on humanity.

We are a species with amazing potential and Star Trek is always there to remind us of that.

Happy Star Trek Day!

Follow the Rules or Follow Your Heart?

They told you to follow all the rules and you’d be happy and successful.

You gave it your best only to find yourself far down the road and not as fulfilled as you’d hoped.

What gives? Nowhere in following all those outside rules and prescriptions for your life did they tell you that what fulfills comes from within and flows outwards not the other way around.

Thankfully, you have an internal compass that knows where your bliss lives.

Follow your heart. It knows the way.

Wherever you are on your journey today, remember you are awesome!

Limitless Beings Trapped in Limited Mindsets

We so often think we are powerless when we are anything but.

True, our forms have limits, but that only reminds us we are here to work together.

Our minds, when rightly focused and purposely freed from conditioning, are connected to the consciousness that beats hearts and spins galaxies.

Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to stop seeing ourselves as this form that lives a few decades, eventually gets sick, and dies; and start identifying our consciousness with the consciousness that underlies all that was, is, and ever will be.

Wherever you are in your journey today, know that you are awesome!

Remembering Who We Truly Are is the Cure

People say our divides are too wide and our differences too much.

Sorry, but I have to call BS on that. If we focus the surface – the masks, roles, and containers – then those people are right.

When we go a layer deeper and remember these forms that seem to separate us are all made of star dust, we begin to see the commonality and unity.

When we go one more step – beyond the material – to the level of consciousness, we smack our foreheads and say, “What was I thinking? Now I remember.”

We remember that we are conscious beings all and call connected to the cosmic consciousness that is our true root system. We remember that we are here playing these games in time and space for the growth, the experience, and the fun.

But, some might counter, “That’s nice but how does it solve inequality, injustice, and suffering?”

To that I reply, no one who has truly understood the truth about who we all are – every one of us – will ever permit any of those ills to be visited upon themselves or anyone else.

Forgetting, separation and the fear they cause are the real problem. Remembering, unification and the love they evoke are the solution.

Bold Thoughts, Bold Action

Positive, empowered thinking is only the start. Until that thinking is converted to bold action, we change little about our lives or the world. Once that thinking becomes bold action, we are capable of changing just about anything about the world or our lives.

Consider how many people had the chance to conceive gravity before Newton, but took no action. How many could have held the Wright Brothers’ place in history, had they only put their ideas for human flight into action? Who else had words as beautiful and powerful as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but never acted on them and so never changed the course of history?

I’d posit that there were many others who could have replaced these names in history had they simply acted on their thoughts or ideas.

What amazing thinking have you manifested, but not acted upon? How might it change your life and the world, if only you acted? Something to ponder today. Something to act upon today.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are awesome!
