Be the Architect of Your Life

Today’s Affirmation:

I am the architect of my life and my dreams!

R. Buckminster Fuller, or “Bucky Fuller” as he was known to his friends, was an inventor, thinker, and futurist. He was one of those rare visionaries who was able to see clearly beyond “what is” to “what can be”.

One of my favorite of his many wonderful quotes is, “We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.”

It’s easy to see the wisdom in a quote like that and equally probable that we gloss over it without realizing the significance of it.

We ARE architects of the future. You can easily substitute life, career, relationships, experiences, or potential in place of future. For we are, the architects of it all. We are constantly creating each of these spheres of our existence.

The second part of the quote – “not its victims – is also powerful. We sometimes go through our lives acting as though we are passengers on a bus that we have no control over. We develop a mindset that tells us that circumstances and experiences “just happen” to us randomly. Few things could be further from the truth.

The fact is – whether we are attentive or inattentive to it – we are driving the bus. It’s what we came here to do.

Carl Jung had a wonderful quote about this way of looking at events. He said, “When an inner situation is not made conscious it appears outside as fate.”

The fact that you often create unconsciously rather than consciously does not negate your role as the architect, producer, director – pick your term – of your life. The goal is to bring more and more of that creation into the conscious sphere so that you can drive your life in the directions that make sense for you.

So, here is today’s task. Think of three opportunities or situations that you want to manifest or more fully manifest in your life. Write them down and place them in strategic places around your life where they will constantly be in front of you. For each situation, list the steps that will help you create that situation in your life. Finally, work consciously this week on ways to bring those circumstances about in your life.

Remember you ARE the architect in your life and you certainly are not its victim. Taking ownership will take you far.

Follow your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

What Are You Waiting For? – The Affirmation Spot for Friday June 25, 2010

Today’s Thought:

Sometimes being happy means forgiving what you can, forgetting what you must, and seeing beauty in all.

What are you waiting for? Tomorrow the perfect time? What are you saving best for? The perfect person or situation? Many of us live the days of our lives as though there is an endless supply of them. Only late in the game, do we realize that there is an end to this form and our opportunity to experience it.

A couple of years ago John Mayer released a song titled “Say” that was featured in the movie The Bucket List. The movie, if you haven’t seen it, stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as two aging, sick men who come from very different worlds, but make a connection during an unplanned sharing of a hospital room.

Nicholson’s character is a wealthy man and decides to take his new friend on a tour of the world to market things off their “bucket lists”.

Mayer – at his absolute best here – articulates the idea of grabbing this moment right now and living the life we choose in his song. Enjoy.

Your Unique Contribution – The Affirmation Spot for Tuesday June 8, 2010

Today’s Affirmation:

I am 100 percent genuine. I am 100 percent original. I am 100 percent authentic.

Everything that happens, regardless of the immediate suffering or joy it creates, perfectly prepares you to fulfill your purpose and achieve your goals. Focus, therefore, always on your experience and the lessons it has to teach you.

For just as the sun knows when to rise and the rose knows when to bloom, so too will you know when it is your moment to step forward and shine. It will be obvious that circumstances call for the special gifts and personal abilities that are uniquely yours.

Remember no matter where life has led you or how much pain you have endured, you still have something wonderful within that you, and only you, can contribute to the universe. Never let anyone tell you that your contribution is umimportant.

I’d dare say that your contribution is so important that the natural unfolding of the universe is undermined when you or anyone else fails to make their contribution. Live as if you dwell in a blessed state of grace because you do. Act as if you are endowed with enormous power to make a difference because you are.

Each day is one small deposit in your larger contribution to all of existence. Do yourself and the rest of us a huge favor and don’t forget to make it.

Stay positive stay inspired!
