Tune Into Your Prosperity and Flourish – Day 148 of 365 Days to You

You can go to the ocean with a teaspoon or a bucket. The ocean doesn’t care.

Reverend Ike was using the ocean as a metaphor for God or the Universe in this fantastic quote. How do you feel about being prosperous? How do you feel about having the comforts you want?

There are many people who are scandalized by the teachings of people like the late Reverend Ike or Joel Osteen. It’s unholy to want things and to openly talk about it. It’s unholy to ask God for abundance. There are a lot us, including me for many years, who believed it was somehow “unspiritual” to seek material well-being. Only it’s not.

I spent many years suffering in this mindset and there are I times I still battle it.  A lot of us have spent our lives trying to bring the ocean’s bounty into our lives one teaspoonful at a time. It’s exhausting and unnecessary. Bring a bucket! Bring a tub! God or the Universe, as you prefer, is not limited. There’s no annual budget like a government. There’s plenty for everyone.

Power Hack: How do you get what you want?

  1. You have to be very clear what you want. Some of you will remember the days before pushbutton car radios that automatically go to the next station. As you manually tuned between stations, there was static if you weren’t right on a station. You’ve got to tune into the “station” of what you want. Otherwise, your lack of clarity will just yield static.
  2. Get it in your mind. Once you know what you want, firmly fix it in your mind. “Thoughts become things,” as Mike of Notes from the Universe has famously said.
  3. Write it down. Our minds are imperfect carriers of our goals. They can lose focus or forget. Write down your clear goal and keep it with you everywhere.
  4. Support it with positive thoughts and action. Positive thoughts are like fuel. If you have no rocket, you won’t reach the atmosphere. Action is like a rocket with no fuel. You’ll never get off the ground. Support your goal with empowered thoughts and inspired action.
  5. Get as many senses involved as possible. If your goal is tangible, take opportunities to experience what you want before you have it. Feel it, smell, taste it, see it. hear it. Scientific fact: your brain doesn’t know the difference between high sensory inputs and the real thing.

You were not made to squeak by and feel guilty for doing that. You were not made to watch others achieve their dreams, while you still struggle for yours. I’m not saying there’s not patience and hard work involved. There is. I am saying, though, you were made to flourish.

Homework: I want you to go to the dictionary right now and look up the word flourish. Once you’ve absorbed its meaning, commit yourself to creating a life for yourself and for your loved ones that could be described as flourishing.

Over the past several months, I’ve been conducting an Internet survey on how people use affirmations. My goal is eventually to use the research to write a book about affirmations.

I’ve been a little surprised by the results of the survey. Only 43% of people who use affirmations report that they are using some form of audio affirmation. Of those using audio affirmations, less than half are making use of mp3 affirmations. That means only 18% of affirmation users are taking advantage of the MP3 format.

The proliferation of iPods, MP3 players, and MP3-capable cell phones makes it easier than ever to take affirmations and positive thoughts with you wherever you go and use them whenever you want. The great part is that you don’t even have to have an MP3 player or iPod to take advantage of it.

But why audio affirmations and specifically MP3 affirmations?

9 Reasons MP3 Affirmations Rock!

  1. Play flexibility – as compared to other audio formats, MP3 affirmations are the most flexible. They can be played on an array devices – iPods, MP3 players, MP3-capable cell phones, MP3-capable PDAs, your computer, or even burned to a CD – while tapes and CDs are limited to devices capable of playing them.
  2. Select flexibility – MP3 affirmations are often available as individual tracks. This allows you to select only the specific affirmations you want rather than having to pay for affirmations you will never use.
  3. Save money – as compared with any other types of audio affirmations, MP3 downloads save money. They can often be purchased as individual downloads like a song from iTunes rather than as expensive packages.

  7. Privacy – with headphones audio affirmations can be used virtually anywhere without anyone else knowing what you are doing. Again, other affirmations forms do not lend themselves to this kind of privacy. Books, websites, and computer screens can all give away what you are doing.
  8. Use anywhere – with the previously mentioned portable devices, your affirmations can go with you to be used exactly when and where you need them. Take your affirmations into the locker room before the big game. Listen to them on the way to the big sales call or even while you wait for your meeting. Listen to them when you’re relaxing in the hammock. Absorb your affirmations along with “the sun” while tanning. Anyplace your portable device goes, your affirmations can follow.
  9. Better for the Environment – MP3 downloads have one very specific advantage over their CD, DVD, and cassette tape counterparts. They are far more environmentally friendly. mia_snow.jpgMia is our beautiful three year-old black lab. She is doesn’t know it, at least I don’t think she does, but she is a master teacher on the subject of life – a kind of canine Confucius. You see, she lives her life the way many of us set out to live ours. She knows what she wants and she goes for it and she never gives up.

You can characterize this trait as persistance.

When Mia wants something she can be highly persistent. For instance, I rarely get to sleep in on weekends anymore. Mia usually makes sure I’m up no later than 7 a.m. She doesn’t have to go out she just wants me out of bed. She has a very subtle approach and a clear strategy. She doesn’t bark or run around the room.

No, Mia persists with kindness. 

It usually starts with her getting up on the bed and finding a way to lay her head on my chest.This is usually enough to wake me up. Then the licking begins. She licks my hand until I sleepily hide it under the pillow. Mia persists. She inches up her way up so that she can lick my chin.I’ve always been a night owl. On nights when I don’t have to go into the office the next day, like Friday nights, I’m often up late reading or working. So, I’m pretty determined to sleep in until at least 8:00. Mia, however, has different plans.

She’s probably spotted squirrels out playing in her backyard. She is, afterall, the fiercest squirrel warrior in five counties. She wants me to get up and let her out.  I want to sleep for a little longer.

Now she works her way up to my ear and starts licking. I’ve had enough and I tell her to go lay down. She complies, but she doesn’t give up. Mia persists. Usually, within five to 10 minutes, she’s back. She jumps up on the bed and plants herself on top of me with a sigh. She thinks she’s a lap dog even though she weighs 55+ pounds.

I hide my hands immediately. I mean I’m smarter than the dog, right? So, she starts with the chin and starts inching her way up until she’s licking me right on the face. Not one or two kisses, mind you, but a full barrage designed to end the stalemate.

Sometimes, depending on exactly how late I’ve been up the night before, this can go on for two or three cycles before I concede the point and get up and let her out. On the mornings this strategy doesn’t work, Mia has back up plans. Mia persists.

She waits until I’ve just dozed off again and then she sits at the edge of the bed and makes “crying sounds”. It’s like one of those alarm clocks that starts out low and grows louder until you turn it off. If this doesn’t work, Mia persists. If this strategy doesn’t work, she turns to her last hope – April. She starts bothering April. She’s not really trying to get April to get up. She just wants April to convince me to take her out. I usually don’t make it to 8:00.

Looked at in one way, not my tired early morning view, it’s all pretty humorous.

Persistence is one of those attributes that helps you go where you want to go in life. Unfortunately, you sometimes lose steam along the road to your dreams.

Here are Mia’s persistence tips:

  1. Be clear on what you want in your mind.
  2. Pursue your goal with all your might, but be kind. The world is full of mean people willing to succeed at the expense of others. Don’t be one of them.
  3. Be patient. The first lick doesn’t always do the job.
  4. Involve others and get their buy in to help you.
  5. Have back up strategies. Sometimes Plan A fails. That doesn’t mean your goal or your dream must fail. Devise new ways of succeeding.
  6. Never give up.
  7. Enjoy life. Mia always does!
