REACH FOR THE STARS!

Hey, everyone

GOOD morning!

Hard as it may be to believe looking around you right now, all of this craziness is presenting us with OPPORTUNITIES for a FAR better world and a FAR more compassionate civilization that serves the needs of ordinary people.

Like all things in life, it’s a choice. We can seize these opportunities or we can be seized by a million possible dystopias that fill our minds.

When we do the latter, who wins? Not us.

I’m a FIRM believer that despite the human past and even the human present, we are a good species at heart. We have enormous potential. We are meant to reach for the stars literally, but first we must raise our faces out of the dirt and toward the sun.

We have 10,000 years of conditioning that mostly divides us, mostly makes us afraid to trust, compels us to hold on to our dogmas in ways that don’t even serve us.

We are better than that. You are better than that. I am better than that.

The inertia of our thinking pulls back into our divisions, back into our fears, back into our tribes.

Just like a rocket headed for space, we have to achieve escape velocity, if we are going to escape the gravity of the past.

It’s hard work. It’s easier just to fade back into “Us” and “Them” thinking. It’s easier to say I’ll do it tomorrow or next week or next year.

It’s tough to say it begins right here and with me.

People often say, “I’ve tried positive thinking and it doesn’t always work.”

It’s true positive thinking doesn’t always work, but it GREATLY increases your chances for happiness and success.

Sadly, negative thinking does nearly always work. No one who ever thought they couldn’t did. No one who ever doubted humanity contributed to its advancement.

In two days here in The United States, we are going to celebrate these words…

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

That’s still the dream we ALL have. We all seek life. We all seek liberty. We all seek the freedom to pursue happiness.

We’ve all fallen short. You have. I have. Our “adversaries” have. The man who penned those words did.

Yet the principles embodied in that statement transcend all our failures to live up to it. Those words brought a change in law. It’s time for us, 244 years later, to finally make it a change in hearts.

We come into this world naked and crying. We all leave the same way. It’s the difference we make in between that matters. I know you came here to achieve something great. We all did.

Let’s get to it. If we all focused more on what we’re here to do and less on the hurdles. amazing things can and will happen.

Everyone stay safe. Everyone stay well. Everyone reach for a star today.

Be The Conscious Opposition – Day 300 of 365 Days to a Better You

Today’s Affirmation

Even in the face of a world run on negativity, I am a conscious light for the change that can be,

Fear, division, anger, blame, tribalism. Observe traditional media, social media, or pop culture for 15 minutes and you’ll find it teeming with these mindsets. You couldn’t, if you tried, create a list of characteristics more destructive to the human hearts and human aspirations than these. Yet, this is mental bath we’re all bathing in daily, if we’re not conscious.

These values will win the day and win in your life unless you raise the vibration of your thinking and boost your immunity to them. What our world desperately needs is a conscious opposition, a conscious counterculture.

Where fear rules, sow love. Where division and tribalism are winning, practice unity. When the world preaches anger and vengeance, be the lone voice, if necessary, for peace and understanding. In a culture of blame, stand for accountability and personal responsibility.

The way to change the prevailing culture is not to match anger with anger or to checkout to your personal Nirvana. Be the embodiment of higher vibration through active engagement with this world.

How? Here are some practical ways to be part of the conscious opposition in your daily life.

  1. Challenge the status quo and conventional wisdom. The reason these negative values win is because they pander to the easiest and lowest vibrations in us. They win through the inertia of habit. “That’s how it’s always been and how it will always be,” say the systems defenders. Show others there is a conscious alternative to these habits.
  2. Be engaged. Don’t remain silent when you see these negative mindsets winning. It’s scary to speak out. You may fear what your friends or family will think. You may believe it’s safer to avoid controversial topics. The negative status quo relies on forward thinkers to remain silent. Make your conscious voice count.
  3. Practice what you preach. It’s easy to see these negative mindsets winning and become angry yourself. It’s easy to think your righteous anger is better than the status quo anger. Don’t fall into this trap. The only way to raise the vibration in your world is to raise the vibration. Your anger is as destructive as what is. If you say you’re for conscious change, then be it.
  4. Maintain the health of your consciousness. The negative mainstream of consciousness has the advantage of the 24/7 news cycle feed8 g the masses all the division and negativity they can swallow. The prevalence of these mindsets in the world can even wear you down and weigh you down, if you’re not careful. Know what feeds your positive vibration and keep it strong so you can be light in the darkness.
  5. Believe positivity can win. The negative mindsets in the world often win on the power of their supposed practicality and invincibility. After all, if someone mistreats you, it makes perfect sense to get them back, right? “it’s just human nature,” so e argue, “there’s no changing it.” Nonsense. Our thinking and our unconscious agreement created the status quo. Our thinking and our conscious choice to change it can reset the game completely. You must believe positivity can win. If not you, who?

We are not stuck on an unalterable path. The world can change, if you and I are willing to be the example of the world that can be,

Are You Choosing Your Paradigms – Day 230 of 365 Days to a Better You

Do you create your own paradigms or are you a tenant farmer for someone eles’s paradigms? What do I mean?

I’ve noted that there are three kinds of people when it comes to paradigms.

  1. Buyers – There are people who buy completely into their inherited cultural paradigms. Their country is the best. Their inherited religion is the best. Their inherited political party is the best, etc. They’ve never considered another point of view for a second or questioned their own assumptions.
  2. Rejectors – There are people who have thought a little more about it. Their solution is to completely reject every inherited paradigm and believe something as totally opposite as they can find.
  3. Seekers – There is a third group that has thought more deeply than either of the other two. It doesn’t mean they’re more correct than the other two. It simply means they’ve put their inherited paradigms to the test rather merely accepting them at face value. They’ve avoided or transcended the impulse to simply reject them. They’ve taken what works through testing and applied that to their life. They’ve staked out their own ground, their own paradigm.

I’m not judging any of the groups. Each can find their way in this world. Experience tells me these groups break down about 75 percent, 20 percent, five percent respectively.

The easiest road is to be the buyer. You get plenty of emotional support and reinforcement in your circle for making that choice and staying true to it. You are, though, what I called above a tenant farmer living on ideas decided upon by others for you.

It’s harder to break free from the gravity of the buyer impulse and become a rejector. You set yourself up for social ostracism and lack of understanding from family and friends in the buyer category. You feel like a rebel, but you still haven’t chosen anything. You’ve only wholesale rejected the buyers in your culture. Thus, your paradigm is still decided by theirs because you’re going to reject it whatever it is.

Seekers are people who saw through the provincialism of the buyer mindset. No one group has all the good ideas. They probably passed through a rejector stage where they used rejection to break free. Eventually, though, they evolved to a thought-space of their own choosing. It was born from experience, trial and error, and insight.

Seekers may not be enlightened beings yet, but they have taken the two critical steps on that road.

So, I ask you again. Do you create your own paradigms or are you a tenant farmer for someone eles’s paradigms?

Do You Respect Freedom? – Day 189 of 365 Days to a Better You

Freedom. It’s a fascinating concept with a checkered past in human history. Presumedly, before we had city-states and division of labor, people were free from laws other than their obligations within their small groups.

Eventually, the powerful centralizing force of civilization, with few exceptions, placed the power to decide in fewer and fewer hands. Over the past 500 years or so, there has been a massive push toward granting the individual more autonomy over his or her life. It’s been a bloody struggle filled with periods of two steps forward and one step back.

By the dawn of the 20th century at least politically if not economically, people in the “western democracies” achieved a level of freedom unparalleled in human history. It wasn’t and isn’t perfect. We still have fallen short of gender and racial fairness, but the leaps forward, compared with most of human history, are amazing.

However, our success in carving out space for the individual and the relative prosperity that has accompanied it, have spawned mindsets that threaten the very principles upon which that freedom is based.

Every one is very familiar with his or her rights and we have expanded that conception so much that, for some, it now means the freedom not to encounter any idea not compatible with one’s own conception of the world. A span of concepts from political and religious exceptionalism to hair-trigger offense mechanism have breached the basic contract upon which individual freedom is written. That is that you can have as much freedom as you’ll allow for others.

In this freest time in human history, many are now willing to use the heavy hand of the state to silence, censor, and curtail the freedom of people for the mere sin of disagreeing with them.

This has brought us to a crossroads. Do we truly believe in the freedom to disagree and will individual freedom be a feature of human society in the future or will our selfishness and need to have a world white-washed of all opposing views and lifestyles plunge us back into the darkness of a tyranny where those choices are made for all by a few societal arbiters?

This question will be answered by all of us and each of us. It comes down to the ways in which you interact with your world every day. Do you support freedom even for those you oppose or despise or do you reach for the easy button of shutting them down? is the principle of freedom alive enough in you to see that the only way any of us can have it is to allow all of us to have it?

A better you is often hamstrung by the culture you live in and we are creating that culture every single day with every single interaction. What kind of culture are you choosing?
