Rainy Days and Mondays – Day 112 of 365 Days to a Better You

Some of you are old enough to remember The Carpenters hit song “Rainy Days and Mondays.”

Today has been a rainy day and a Monday in Boston. Mondays alone are often enough to make us want to push the marker of life forward to Tuesday. Rain can be the double whammy. Everyone would understand. Heck, many of them would join you.

Here’s the thing. Monday, whether it’s raining or not, is one-seventh of your life. You’ve already given a third of your life to sleep and another third to work. You’ve got to eat, pick up the kids from soccer, get the “honey dos” done. Can you really afford to give up Monday too and still achieve your dreams?

Power hack: Learn to see days like this as your opportunity to get ahead of everyone else who has taken the easy way out. While they’re phoning it in, you’re making progress. While they’re making excuses you’re making a difference. While they’re having Monday on Tuesday, you’ve got your week off to a fantastic beginning!

And rain? Rain is refreshing, rejuvenating, and life-giving. It need not be depressing. The clouds are not hiding the sun. They’re only reminding us to appreciate it more.

John Ruskin once wrote, “Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”

The storm weathered makes the sailor stronger. Rainy days and Mondays don’t have to get you down. They can be your advantage!
