Miracle in Progress

sun in handsThere! Did you see it? There’s a miracle in progress. Where? Everywhere you look. The ants are building ant hills. Your heart is beating, beating, beating. The season is effortlessly changing again. The Earth goes around the Sun, as the Sun goes around the center of the galaxy. Everywhere you look, there’s a miracle.

You’ve heard the expression, “Don’t take your eye off the ball”. I think we should amend that to, “Don’t take your eye off the miracle.”

The moment you take your eye off the miracle, you begin to get into trouble. You start seeing “us” and “them”, “enough” and “not enough”, “future” and “past”, and you worry about all of it. Your worry turns into a soup of negative internal emotions that spill out into your world as unhappiness, anger, hatred, and even violence.

None of this is possible when you have your eye on the miracle. For in that vision of the world, you see how rare, precious, and amazing you are. You see how rare, precious and amazing everyone and everything around you is. We are all survivors, here in this place and time against overwhelming odds. Yet, here making our stand, being who we came here to be, and contributing our own uniqueness to the miracle.

So, when the moment gets you down today, remember the miracle. When you’re tempted fall into negativity and doubt, remember the miracle. It’s always right there, completely self-evident in every moment, if only you’ll look.

Follow your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

Today is the first in a series of posts where I plan to highlight some of the amazing miracles around us. It’s easy to take things for granted, but our world and our Universe is a pretty amazing place.

While our goals and dreams and lives are very important, they are not the only thing going on. It’s always refreshing to step back and watch the miracles in action.

2009 Affirmation

“This year I am absolutely committed to being the person I came here to be!”

Time to Be Who You Came Here to Be – The Affirmation Spot for Friday January 2, 2009

Today’s Affirmation:

“This year I am absolutely committed to being the person I came here to be.”
(This is the official TAS affirmation for 2009. Click the affirmation to hear the mp3 version)

starfield2Unless you adhere to the most skeptical view of evolution, you probably believe that life has a purpose. There is a reason you – and everyone and everything that shares this planet with you – are here. Your very presence is a certifiable miracle.

Literally trillions of events in the history of this universe had to happen just right for you to be here. If any one of them had happened another way, then no you.

In my book, that makes your existence rather significant.

That begs the question. Why are you here? What are you here to be?

More than likely you know the answer to that question. It’s hidden or forgotten somewhere deep inside of you, but it is there. You’ve had inklings of it throughout your life. There are those things you just love doing and experiencing. There are places you just love to be. Perhaps at one time you dreamed of doing those things or being in those places.

Somewhere along the line your dreams and reality collided.  You gave up on the dreams to live in “reality.” “They” told you your dreams were not realistic and you bought it. My question to you is do your dreams and your reality have to be conflict? Can your dreams become your reality?

The great thinkers and spiritual teachers of our species have been clear and unequivocal in their conviction that our dreams can be our reality. Few things have been more universally taught.

That’s not to say that you can blink your eyes “Genie-style” and your wish becomes your life. It may take work. There may be challenges. You might have to make hard choices. None of the great sages ever promised otherwise.

Are your dreams worth it or not?

The joy and jubilation created by the new year will pass and “real life” will begin again. The momentum you need to make the changes you are promising yourself this year need to be boosted by something inspirational, if they are to survive.

Your dreams fit the bill perfectly. Suspend your disbelief and start walking in the direction of your dreams. As you get in better “dream shape” pick it up to a jog. By the end of the journey, you will be in full sprint towards your dreams.

Soon you will be embracing your deepest dreams and spending your days living your dreams instead of…well…dreaming about them. Belief and commitment are the only price of admission.

It’s time to “show up” and be the people we came here to be in 2009! Are you with me?

Stay awesome!

Guaranteed Miracle – The Affirmation Spot for Monday July 21, 2008

Another Monday and for most of us the beginning of a new work week. Our lives are divided into these segments called weeks and it is a very efficient method to keep track of our schedules and the passage of time.

There is a tendency, however, for one week to run into the next and run into the one after that. The weeks start looking alike and we start to get that treadmill feeling. We take a lot for granted and we do a lot on auto pilot.

Yet, there are miracles everywhere, if only we choose to see them. Pay attention this week. I guarantee you that you will witness at least one miracle this week, if you’re watching. It might be big or small, but be it will be. It might happen to you, someone you know, someone you don’t; but happen it will.

What would it be worth to you on your journey back to you to differentiate this week by becoming fully aware of a real miracle? How would it inspire? How would it motivate? How would it change things? How would knowing that a tremendously positive turn of events is always possible?

“Miracles, ” wrote St. Augustine, “are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know of nature.”

So do you believe or do you defer? Are you ready to encounter a miracle this week and have it make all the difference in this fourth week of July 2008?

Well, you already encountered one miracle today – YOU. What will the next miracle be?

Stay inspired!

There are so many amazing creatures that share this planet with us. I think we can safely count them as among the many miracles we experience in our world. They enrich our lives with their beauty and often leave us in awe.

Today spend a few moments with one of them. The blue whale is the largest animal ever to live on Earth.

This is from the BBC show Deep Blue. These animals are simply amazing. Enjoy!

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk. KU! – The Affirmation Spot for Friday January 4, 2008

Today’s affirmation is:

“My ability to believe is the only limit on my success.”

mangino_orange_bowl.jpgIn one of the great rags to riches sports stories of the year, the Kansas Jayhawk football team completed a storybook 12-1 season last night with a 24-21 “upset” over perennial power Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl.

The story is truly inspirational. It about a group of under-recruited players who came together as a team and created something greater than the sum of its parts.

As a proud KU grad, I normally have to wait for basketball season to have something to cheer about. Not since 1969 had KU even played a football game in January or in a major bowl. Never  in 100+ years of football had the school won 11 games in a season. Never had a KU team made it to a BCS bowl game.

2007 was different. The Jayhawks began the season with big blowouts over lesser opponents. Many criticized the non-conference schedule as soft and it took the poll voters time to believe in this team. I understand because it took me until last night to really finally believe in them.

Surely, many thought, they will start losing when they reach Big 12 play. Only the Jayhawks kept rolling along. Piling up win after win against teams used to counting KU as a sure victory on their schedule. “Well,” the non-believers argued, “they didn’t have to play Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech.” True enough. The KU schedule benefited from not having to play these teams.

The problem with all this naysaying is that many KU fans can remember when there were no sure wins on the football schedule. They played “lesser” opponents and struggled or lost to them. A game against KU was an opportunity to pad the statistics for the Nebraskas, K-States, Oklahomas, and Texas’ of the world.

This year the Jayhawks beat K-State for the third time in four years after 11 straight losses. They pummeled Nebraska 73-39 in a game that surely sealed the fate of Nebraska coach Bill Callahan.

Sixth year coach Mark Mangino was simply following the game plan of mentor and former Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder. Play the games your scheduled to play and win them. Beginning in 1989, Snyder created another Kansas football miracle when he took the lowliest football program in college football history – K-State – and turned them into perennial contenders for Big 8, Big 12, and even national titles.

And now the student has achieved something similar down the road in Lawrence. There is another Kansas college football miracle in the making.

One word characterizes this year’s KU team – BELIEF. They believed in themselves and each other when no one else did. The pollsters did not believe. The media did not believe. Even many KU fans, myself included, were slow to believe.

But Coach Mangino, his coaches, and the players never stopped believing in themselves. That is the key to every success we ever have in life. Every great endeavor attracts a chorus of naysayers telling us it cannot be done. If you undertake an endeavor, you can count on it. As long as WE BELIEVE, anything is possible.

Afterall, people told the Wright Brothers they would never fly. People said TV was a fad. People said we could never go to the moon. People said KU could not beat a team like Virginia Tech. People are often wrong, but our belief that we can acheive some goal is never wrong.

As you begin to pursue your goals in 2008, you may encounter the naysayers. When you do remember the KU football team and keep believing.

Be peaceful Be prosperous.

Today’s affirmation is:

“Today I recognize the miracle that is me and the other miracles all around me.”ggb_trafficjpg.gif

Well it’s Wednesday and in case you were thinking it is the middle of “just another week” here are some things to ponder.

Someday we will all face the end of our walk in this form.

Sometimes during the course of “just another week” we don’t recognize how precious each moment is and how quickly all this is passing us by. We forget what a miracle it is that any of us are here at all.

Have you ever really considered just how many unlikely things had to happen for YOU to be here, or, for that matter, for HERE to be here?

Every single thing we see around us all day long every day was a one in a trillion shot. Each blade of grass, each cloud, each person, even the traffic jam you found yourself in on the way to work this morning – all are totally unlikely combinations that beat the long odds to burst into existence. That’s nothing short of a miracle.

grass1.gifSomeday when you do reach the end of this stage of your journey; this “just another week” may seem a lot more special than it does now. You may wish you had stopped to witness and marvel at the whole miraculous play.

Today, make a point to see the miracles. Tell the person you care most about in this world that you love them and remind them that they are a miracle.

And when you encounter the traffic jam on the way home this evening, breathe deeply and say, “Ah, yes. You are a miracle too.” It won’t get you home any faster, but it will make the ride more enjoyable.

Enjoy a miraculous Wednesday!!

 Be peaceful Be prosperous
