Miracle in Progress

sun in handsThere! Did you see it? There’s a miracle in progress. Where? Everywhere you look. The ants are building ant hills. Your heart is beating, beating, beating. The season is effortlessly changing again. The Earth goes around the Sun, as the Sun goes around the center of the galaxy. Everywhere you look, there’s a miracle.

You’ve heard the expression, “Don’t take your eye off the ball”. I think we should amend that to, “Don’t take your eye off the miracle.”

The moment you take your eye off the miracle, you begin to get into trouble. You start seeing “us” and “them”, “enough” and “not enough”, “future” and “past”, and you worry about all of it. Your worry turns into a soup of negative internal emotions that spill out into your world as unhappiness, anger, hatred, and even violence.

None of this is possible when you have your eye on the miracle. For in that vision of the world, you see how rare, precious, and amazing you are. You see how rare, precious and amazing everyone and everything around you is. We are all survivors, here in this place and time against overwhelming odds. Yet, here making our stand, being who we came here to be, and contributing our own uniqueness to the miracle.

So, when the moment gets you down today, remember the miracle. When you’re tempted fall into negativity and doubt, remember the miracle. It’s always right there, completely self-evident in every moment, if only you’ll look.

Follow your bliss. Experience your bliss. Become your bliss.

Today is the first in a series of posts where I plan to highlight some of the amazing miracles around us. It’s easy to take things for granted, but our world and our Universe is a pretty amazing place.

While our goals and dreams and lives are very important, they are not the only thing going on. It’s always refreshing to step back and watch the miracles in action.

starfield2Unless you adhere to the most skeptical view of evolution, you probably believe that life has a purpose. There is a reason you – and everyone and everything that shares this planet with you – are here. Your very presence is a certifiable miracle.

Literally trillions of events in the history of this universe had to happen just right for you to be here. If any one of them had happened another way, then no you.

In my book, that makes your existence rather significant.

That begs the question. Why are you here? What are you here to be?

More than likely you know the answer to that question. It’s hidden or forgotten somewhere deep inside of you, but it is there. You’ve had inklings of it throughout your life. There are those things you just love doing and experiencing. There are places you just love to be. Perhaps at one time you dreamed of doing those things or being in those places.

Somewhere along the line your dreams and reality collided.  You gave up on the dreams to live in “reality.” “They” told you your dreams were not realistic and you bought it. My question to you is do your dreams and your reality have to be conflict? Can your dreams become your reality?

The great thinkers and spiritual teachers of our species have been clear and unequivocal in their conviction that our dreams can be our reality. Few things have been more universally taught.

That’s not to say that you can blink your eyes “Genie-style” and your wish becomes your life. It may take work. There may be challenges. You might have to make hard choices. None of the great sages ever promised otherwise.

Are your dreams worth it or not?

The joy and jubilation created by the new year will pass and “real life” will begin again. The momentum you need to make the changes you are promising yourself this year need to be boosted by something inspirational, if they are to survive.

Your dreams fit the bill perfectly. Suspend your disbelief and start walking in the direction of your dreams. As you get in better “dream shape” pick it up to a jog. By the end of the journey, you will be in full sprint towards your dreams.

Soon you will be embracing your deepest dreams and spending your days living your dreams instead of…well…dreaming about them. Belief and commitment are the only price of admission.

It’s time to “show up” and be the people we came here to be in 2009! Are you with me?

Guaranteed Miracle – The Affirmation Spot for Monday July 21, 2008

Another Monday and for most of us the beginning of a new work week. Our lives are divided into these segments called weeks and it is a very efficient method to keep track of our schedules and the passage of time.                                                                                                                          

There is a tendency, however, for one week to run into the next and run into the one after that. The weeks start looking alike and we start to get that treadmill feeling. We take a lot for granted and we do a lot on auto pilot.

Yet, there are miracles everywhere, if only we choose to see them. Pay attention this week. I guarantee you that you will witness at least one miracle this week, if you’re watching. It might be big or small, but be it will be. It might happen to you, someone you know, someone you don’t; but happen it will.

What would it be worth to you on your journey back to you to differentiate this week by becoming fully aware of a real miracle? How would it inspire? How would it motivate? How would it change things? How would knowing that a tremendously positive turn of events is always possible?

“Miracles, ” wrote St. Augustine, “are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know of nature.”

So do you believe or do you defer? Are you ready to encounter a miracle this week and have it make all the difference in this fourth week of July 2008? 

Well, you already encountered one miracle today – YOU. What will the next miracle be?
