The Sage Who Sees – Day 260 of 365 Days to a Better You

Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to read today’s post.

Do you ever feel different; like you don’t quite fit in with the ways of this world? I do. It’s not something I came to as an adult. It’s who I’ve been my entire life. It’s like what’s intuitive to me is counterintuitive to our civilization. My polarities are reversed.

My own mother once asked, “Why can’t you just fit in?” Do you vibe with that?

There’s a great quote in the Bhagavad Gita that explains why you and I might feel this way.

“In the dark night of all beings awakes to Light the tranquil man. But what is day to other beings is night for the sage who sees.”

    • The world lusts for war. You seek only peace.
    • The world strives for bottom lines. You believe people are the bottom line.
    • The world adulates at the alter of fear. You have always known love is the answer.
    • The world wants to be cool. You’d rather be wise.
    • The world looks without. You have always gone within.
    • The world sees the dark clouds. You see the bright sun behind the dark clouds.
    • The world clamors for instant gratification. You opt for sustainable gratitude.

I’ve long suspected something. While you and I see ourselves a unique, I’m not so sure we’re that unique. Maybe what comes natural to us is the secret yearning of most people. In fact, I’m certain of it. They simply can’t bring themselves to believe it’s possible. They retreat into the herd safety of the mass consciousness.

As the sage who sees, I believe our mission is to light the path to this greater realization the same as our teachers and mentors have lighted it for us.

Your poles are not reversed because there’s something wrong with you, Don’t give into the gravity of that thinking. Your poles are reversed because you’re here to be a beacon to the world that can be if only a critical mass of people would believe. And today, today, we’re one step nearer than ever before.

You’re absolutely awesome just as you are! Keep following your bliss!

20 Wise Nuggets to Shift Your Paradigm – Day 259 of 365 Days to a Better You

I hope you had a great weekend! Sorry I missed posting yesterday. April and I were busy becoming grandparents for the third time. We spent the night in the hospital last night and we were rewarded this morning with s new granddaughter.

In the pursuit of your best self, it’s expected that a premium is placed on action. After all, action is what ultimately carries you to your destination. Yet, as we’ve discussed before, your thoughts are the fuel. Better thoughts are better fuel. Deep thinking and insight can lead to better thoughts.

Here are 20 insights from my eBook The Power to Be You. May they help you upgrade your fuel for the coming journey.

    1. Sometimes you have to forget “the facts” and follow your heart.
    2. Your greatness is revealed not by the lights that shine upon you, but by the light that shines within you.
    3. Your mind is an information vacuum. Either you fill it with thoughts of your choosing or someone else will.
    4. You are here to bring the formless into form, make the invisible visible, and manifest the unmanifest. How cool is that?
    5. Nobody else’s happiness is your responsibility. Everyone else’s happiness is your concern.
    6. Following all the rules brings a completed checklist. Following your heart brings a completed you!
    7. Life’s first great revelation is you’re not perfect. Life’s second great revelation is you’re amazing any way.
    8. You are a one in a trillion miracle and so is everyone and everything around you. Together, we are one massive miracle in motion.
    9. When you act boldly and with belief, the Universe doubles down on you.
    10. THIS moment is a profound blank canvas that recurs all day long each and every day for you.
    11. Look up into the wide-open sky. Behold the distant horizon. Know your potential is as limitless as they are.
    12. Ask yourself this question daily. “If I was multiplied by 6.5 billion, would the world be a better place?” Adjust accordingly.
    13. Be flexible today. Remember your plan is a road map not a straight jacket. Don’t lose the dream by getting stuck in the steps.
    14. Happiness is a limitless resource not a zero-sum game. There is plenty to go around. Have yours and support others in having theirs too.
    15. The word “Yes” is the birthplace of infinite possibilities. Let “Yes” resonate through your life today.
    16. What is outside you can make a happy day. Only what is inside you can make a happy life.
    17. You are an amazing being full of light, if only you’d see it. You came here to be a game-changing miracle, if only you’d be it.
    18. Tomorrow’s world is born in your mind today. A better world lives just on the other side of your willingness to believe in it.
    19. Sometimes being happy means forgiving what you can, forgetting what you must, and seeing beauty in all.
    20. Doubt is a momentary forgetting of who you are and why you’re here. Confidence is simply remembering it.

Stay inspired, my friends. Let’s create an amazing week on its way to an amazing world together.

6 Tips to Keep the Fire Burning – Day 258 of 365 Days to a Better You

Not one of us is on our game every single day. Let’s be honest. There are days , or longer sometimes, when you’re just not feeling it. The spark is flickering and you’d rather just pull the covers back over your head or binge watch some TV than chase down your dreams.

OK. You need a breather sometimes and it’s wise to recognize it. However, when the breather becomes stagnation, procrastination, and a general lack of concern for goals that had you on fire; it’s time to intervene.

Here are a few tips to re-light your pilot light and get back on your path.

    1. Revisit your goals and dreams. In the heat of pursuing your dreams, it’s possible to lose touch with your WHY. Your WHY is the emotional fire that got you started. Use it to reignite the engines.
    1. Change your goals and dreams. Listen closely when you try to reconnect with your existing goals and dreams. Things change. You change. Sometimes you simply lose interest in your those goals, those dreams, and that why behind them. It’s perfectly fine to acknowledge that, change course, or begin again. In for a penny, does not mean you have to stay in against your will all the way to the pound.
    2. Take the pressure off. Maybe you still want those goals and those dreams, but you’re feeling unsure how to proceed and that’s manifesting as engaging in distraction and delay. You might be feeling like you’re facing a blank page you have to fill every day to keep this path going. You’re not alone. Ask for help. Ask for advice from people further along your path. Go within. Part of the reason you have those specific dreams, goals, and why is because it’s part and parcel to who you are and who you’re meant to be. Get quiet and listen. The answers are there. You don’t have to consciously make this sh*t up as you go. God, the Universe, however you want to term that, has your back.
    3. Affirm. If you’ve determined you’re still in the right path or made the necessary adjustments and you’ve listened for the answers, get your heart and mind re-engaged by affirming that YOU CAN DO THIS AND YOU ARE DOING IT!
    4. Act. The break’s over. You’ve changed the oil and rotated the tires. Time to get back on the road. You don’t have to start HUGE. Just start. Remember: thoughts and emotion are the fuel for your dream, but action is its hands and feet.
    5. Finally, DO NOT beat yourself up. You have goals to achieve and dreams to realize. There’s no time for a pity party. The world needs what you have to offer. S, get to it!

Have an amazing and inspired day, my friends!

Stop Skipping Self-Care – Day 256 of 365 Days to a Better You

You’re busy. You’re tough. You’ll just make it through the day on grit. You’ll put your family’s needs, your friends needs, your company’s needs before yours.

All of these are noble and needed sometimes. Sacrifice of your selfish ends for the greater good makes you the special person you are.

Here’s the rub. When you do that day after day, month after month, year after year; you lose perspective on the unequivocal fact that you’re only as good to others as you are to you.

You’ve got to stop skipping self-care and you’ve got to do it for yourself and for all those other people who rely on you. Some of these, honestly, I need to get better at too.

Here are some things you should take the time or make the time to do every morning to ready yourself for the day, for the service you render to others, for your goals and dreams.

    1. Gratitude– Wake up and say, “Thank you. Thank you for another day and another chance.” The late great Wayne Dyer commented many times on how he made this his first order of business each day. Begin in gratitude.
    2. Conscious showers – have e er taken a shower and gotten out only to realize you didn’t feel the drops because your mind had skipped ahead to your to-do list, your worries, or reliving the past? Your shower is one of your most personal and sacred times each day to be there for you or as Ram Das said, “Be here now.” Be conscious, feel each drop, relish in the experience. Be thankful that you have warm running water. Make it a few moments of your day you look forward to.
    3. Ready the body – take a walk, do some light exercise, stretch and prepare your body for the day.
    4. Ready the mind – pray, meditate, or say your affirmations. Set the mental tone for your day before your day sets it for you. You choose how you begin.
    5. Concretize it – journal your goals for the day or your goals for your life, blog, or make a video. Get your thoughts out of your head and put into the world. It’s the first step in realizing them.
    6. Feed the body – have a good breakfast. Take your vitamins. Take your meds. Give the body the fuel and nutrition it needs to get started and (yes, this means you, Ray) don’t skip meds, if you require them.
    7. Personal care – even if you’re not meeting the world right away, do your personal care routine just for you.
    8. Feed the mind– Listen to music or radio that inspires or fires you up. Watch a video. Read a blog or a book. Learn something. Take in some new information. Keep your mind expanding.
    9. Set the mood – whether you drive for a living, drive to an office or a worksite, or you work at home, do all you can to set a comfortable and inspiring environment for yourself. Place things that inspire you where you can see them.

It might seem like all of this will take too much time. By making the time for you a priority, you actually create a You with more to give than ever before.

Do you! Everyone else, as Oscar Wilde said, is taken.

Your Ever-Ready Survival Pack – Day 255 of 365 Days to a Better You

Life, I think you’d agree, is not a straight line from here to there, from poverty to riches, from ignorance to enlightenment. It’s a gnarly, windy road that can lead you astray, if you let it. Being human, we often let it.

One of my all-tine favorite quotes is a simple piece of profound wisdom that can instantly act as a survival pack on that road you and I are walking. When all has gone off track, this quote gives you all you need to get restarted.

As with most useful quotes, it’s often changed and misattributed. It’s normally attributed to President Teddy Roosevelt or tennis great Arthur Ashe. The Roosevelt attribution is a little closer as the quote comes from his 1913 autobiography. However, he uses it quoting Squire Billy Widener.

Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.

    Eleven words of sheer genius.

It begins with do what you can. You don’t have pull off a miracle or make up 20 points on one play or change the world in an instant. Just do what you can.
Next do it with what you’ve got. You don’t need obtain a Master’s degree or someone else’s approval or have more money in the bank to begin. You can begin with what you’ve got.
Finally, do it where you are. You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment. You don’t need to undo what’s been done. You don’t need to move to a new city. You can start right where you are.

It all seems very simple, but how often do you and I place all kinds of conditions on beginning a change? We’re always looking for a better time, a better place, a better situation. Those are myths. They don’t exist or, if they do, you’ll wait your life away in the hope they might one day arrive.

You don’t need them. You have your ever-ready survival pack in this quote – Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are. You have permission to use it without orders from headquarters.

The journey of a thousand miles does begin with the first step, but the first step begins by beginning.

In case no one else has told you today, YOU are amazing! Rock on!

Get Curious Again – Day 254 of 365 Days to a Better You

Curiosity – a strong desire to know or learn something. Do you remember when that was you? Every day was an adventure in discovery. The world was a big place with so much to learn and to know.

Then, one day, you knew everything or at least you thought you knew enough. You stopped being curious and started hardening into routine, dogma, and complacency. You stopped asking WHY? You stopped questioning all together and you accepted the faulty notion that “It is what it is.”

The great John Wooden once said,”It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.”

There’s more to know than the consensus. There are horizons to explore beyond where they convinced you to stop and be satisfied. If “they” have it all figured out, then why aren’t more people happy, abundant, and enlightened?

You can stay put, blend in, and keep the rest of the herd comfortable by not challenging their paradigms. Or, you can reclaim your curiosity and be the amazing, dare I say, extraordinary human being you cam to the planet to be.

What’s the reward? Joseph Campbell nailed it when he wrote, “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.”

The magic, you see, is transcending the limits of logic, seeing beyond the numbers of the equations, and through to the deeper reality beneath.

You were born to go there. We all were. Wondering where the insight will come from? Worry not, my friend! Remember the old aphorism. “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

Always be ready. Always be curious and just watch what happens.

Thank YOU for spending a few more minutes of your valuable time reading the blog. If you find value, please share it with someone else who might too!
