If You Keep On Doing What You’re Doing – Day 265 of 365 Days to a Better You

Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.
~Robert H. Schuller

You know the rest of the aphorism, “You’ll keep on getting what you’re getting.” I’m here to tell you today that’s not always true. This quote is often used to inspire people who are not acting on their dreams to make a change and take some action.

You, though? You’ve been working your plan, doing all the right things, and you just haven’t caught your lightening in a bottle yet. You stopped doing what you were doing a long time ago and you’re wondering, “When will I see my results?”

Good for you! Good for you that you had the courage to try something different and keep at it! If you’re doing all the right things, then keep on doing what you’re doing!

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
~Walt Disney

Here are a few quick ways to make sure that doing what you’re doing, will eventually get you what you want.

  1. Test your results – you had a plan at the beginning. Is it working? Do you need to tweak it? If so, what do you need to stop doing, do more of, or do less of?
  2. Time – you may be doing all the right things, but you’re not investing the needed time to get the results as quickly as you’d like. Re-evaluate your time commitment.
  3. Learning – to be really good at anything, you have to keep learning. Are you continuing to build your knowledge in your area of focus? When you “burst onto the scene” in your business or niche or reach your personal objective, all the knowledge you’ve accumulated will be worth and useful.
  4. Investment – are you trying to do the whole thing yourself? With a small investment, could you automate or get some expert advice that will speed up the process and allow you to focus on the most important things.
  5. Distractions – we all have distractions in life. What can you do to minimize yours so that they’re not holding you back.
  6. Mindset – maybe the most important thing you can do is master your mindset. The only person committed to making your dream a reality is you. You may be the only person who really believes in this dream until it makes a splash in the world. You’re the only fan and the only detractor at this point. Which one you choose to be will decide how fast your reach your goals.

Yes! I see you. I see striving. I see you working late into the night or early in the morning around your day job. I see you wanting this SO bad. You just keep on doing what you’re doing and just wait and see what you get!

Love you all. Stay true to your vision of you!

“Mahomes” Your Success – Day 252 of 365 Days to a Better You

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.

Some say Wayne Gretzky said it. Some say Michael Jordan. Regardless of who said it, there’s a lot of wisdom in this simple quote. The odds may be stacked against you and chances of success may be slim, but taking the shot still gives you better odds than not.

It’s a great time to be a lifelong (suffering) Kansas City Chiefs fan. Last year the Chiefs unleashed a phenomenon on the NFL – young quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

People are ooing and awwing over Mahomes and the numbers he’s put up so quickly. I think I’ve uncovered at least part of his secret – he’s not afraid to take the shot.

Even at the NFL level, most quarterbacks and coaches prefer to play it safe. They dink and dunk down the field and that’s kind of been NFL offenses for almost 30 years. Few NFL quarterbacks take more than one or two real shots down the field in a game. Mahomes has been known to do it three or four times in a single drive.

Sometimes he misses or bad things happens but by giving himself chances few other NFL quarterbacks will take, he also finds amazing success. Sure it helps to have one of the best arms around and he has some amazing receivers.

I’m telling you, though, it’s more about the mental side of the game and taking your shote than the physical. The Chiefs’ previous quarterback Alex Jones was a case in point. He was a very competent NFL quarterback. His record as a starter in the NFL is amazing. He’s probably get you to the playoffs seven years out of ten. He, like 90 percent of starting NFL quarterbacks, was rarely willing to take those shots. Something bad might happen. So, he missed 100 percent of those opportunities.

If Mahomes hits two or three of those long passes a game, he’s given his team an advantage few others are even willing to try to match.

Powerhack: Ok. How does Patrick Mahomes’ long scoring plays help you? Think about this related to the opportunities in your life. The average NFL scoring drive is about 10 plays. There’s far more risk of something negative happening over 10 plays than on one play. People don’t take that into account. Mahomes’ approach is big risk, big reward.

Send the opportunities in your life long. Let the pass fly and see what happens! You are going to throw some interceptions and incompletions. It’s OK. You’re also going to score more easy touchdowns that people unwilling to take those chances.

Mahomes frequently puts a couple touchdowns on the other team before they’re warmed up. What could that do for your business, your sales, your life?

He’s only 24 years old, but young Patrick Mahomes fearless, go big approach is a lesson for us all.

If no one else has told you today, YOU ARE AWESOME! Thanks for reading. Please share with a friend if this post spoke to you.

Success Stories: Sophie Zollman – The Affirmation Spot for Thursday April 22, 2010

Today’s Affirmation:

Today and every day, success is just a choice away for me!

The power of other peoples’ stories to inspire us is practically limitless. There are so many people out there who want to have their own business or pursue their own bliss, but they are allowing “things” to get in the way.

Today Sophie Zollman of SophieZo, LLC shares her story in her words about her transition from freelance work-at-home-mom (WAHM) to successful business owner. Sophie and I became acquainted on Twitter. I find her story compelling and inspiring and I hope you will too! May her story give you the determination to pursue your goals and know they are possible.

Stay inspired!

From Freelance WAHM to Successful Business Owner: The Story Behind SophieZo, LLC

About 10 years ago, I decided to work from home after my second child was born. I knew that daycare for two children would eat up most of the pay I would make at a regular JOB. I started with data entry from home for a local company. After we moved to another state, I found mystery shopping through a friend. It was a lot of fun but did not provide much income.

In 2004, I found a website that was called Emoonlighter.com. Today many know it as Guru.com. For those of you who have not heard of this site, it is a place to find work as a freelance artist in various fields of expertise. I signed on for customer service and administrative assistant work.

Six weeks later, I had an interview for a customer service position for an eCommerce website. It was just a day or two before Christmas. The next day he called to offer me the job. I accepted and had a very Merry Christmas that year.
This customer service position began as a part-time project. It quickly grew into a full-time position where I became his Virtual Assistant and Online Business Manager. Over a four-year period, I managed customer service, vendor relations, database management, and executive correspondence. I even handled some accounts payable and receivable.

In that time frame, I learned a lot including the fact that I was not being paid what I was worth. The VA industry had changed and grown in so many ways. After four years, I knew it was time to make a change. I decided to “retire” to become a stay-at-home mom once again. However, eight months later our financial situation would change drastically. I had to go back to work.

When that realization came to me, I was determined to do something I enjoyed that paid me what I was worth. I knew I was a great typist with a good ear. I decided to learn transcription after finding a company that was interested in training new candidates.

After a short time doing transcription, I found a new kind of clientele that required Virtual Assistants. When my transcription contract came to an end, I re-launched my VA career. At the same time, I found Twitter and Facebook. Once I found my way around those social media sites, my life changed dramatically.

About 6 months later, three established VAs asked me to partner with them for outsourcing purposes. I knew right then that I had to change from a freelance Virtual Assistant to a business owner. In October of 2009, I registered SophieZo, LLC Virtually There For You and began my new business venture.

Again, thanks to Twitter and Facebook, my new business began drawing clients regularly. I also began talking to people who needed services I did not offer. After speaking to my mentor, I decided to add a team of VAs to be able to handle more clients and offer more services than I could do myself. I launched that new team concept at the end of February 2010.

Since October of 2009, I have expanded my business, quadrupled my client base, and still have many opportunities in the works. I have hired an accountant and will be begin paying myself a regular salary. I never imagined I would be where I am today. Thanks to social media, my mentor, a little hard work and believing in myself, I am having the time of my life. I am truly blessed with a great business, a wonderful family, and the time I need to be with them and take care of myself as well. It took me a long time to get here, but I am glad I finally found my way.

Despite the economic times, more and more women are working from home. As a WAHM turned business owner, I can say that now is the time to do it. The internet has made working at home and owning a business so much easier and less expensive, too. I started my business on a shoestring budget. I took advantage of Social Media and every free teleseminar or report I could get. I learned a lot in a very short time.

The key to success in business is networking and marketing. Social Media makes that easy and very inexpensive. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube are easy to use and free. You can begin networking and marketing the minute you start your business. Building relationships online is essential to growing your business even if it is brand new. In fact, it is one of the best ways to grow a new business quickly and economically.

Starting your own business allows you to follow your passion. You can do what you like instead of doing what you have to for money. True success comes when you are doing what you love. Thanks to the internet and Social Media, dreams can and do come true for women like me every day. Won’t you join us?

The Dream of Business Ownership – The Affirmation Spot for Saturday August 30, 2008

Today’s Affirmation:

“My income is rising day by day, month by month, year by year.” (audio version)

[Note: I am not affiliated with any of the companies discussed in this article. The links provided are to the respective companies’ corporate websites.]

From skin care to baskets to cleaning products to products made from rare tropical fruits; there has never been so many ways to own your own business.

Multilevel Marketing (MLM) – sometimes referred to as network marketing – has its friends and foes. While it is always advisable to make sure you are working with a reputable company selling reputable products, many people are quite successful in MLM. Other people consider MLMs to be a “scam” or a “pyramid scheme”.

They point out that a few people at the top make a lot of money on the backs of the large number of people at the bottom. That’s an interesting argument in light of the fact it is also true of most corporations. What MLMs offer, for people willing to work, is a chance to become one of those top people. As with most endeavors, achievement comes down to the five ingredients of success.

The big benefit offered by legitimate MLMs is the dream of owning your own business. Many people sit in a cube or stand at the assembly line all day wishing they were the boss and that they had more control over their own financial destiny. They dream of owning their own business.

MLMs offer the opportunity to own a business for a much smaller investment than buying a McDonald’s franchise and much less training than becoming a real estate agent. However, anyone getting into a MLM opportunity and thinking its a way to “get rich quick” is probably in for a shock.

There have been instances when people have actually accomplished that, but most people have to work at it and smartly market their business to succeed.

I came across a very interesting website that documents Internet buzz around MLM companies and ranks them according to search engine inquiries. The site is called MLM Rankings. The site offers monthly rankings and categories such as fastest moving.

This month’s top ten include mostly companies you hear a lot about.

  1. Avon, Inc. – for the first time in memory, Avon has been running national television commercials lately. It seems to be paying off in their Internet buzz.
  2. Tupperware – direct marketing company famous for its airtight plastic containers. Tupperware celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2007. Few American homes are without some Tupperware.
  3. Kirby – the vacuum cleaning company.
  4. Herbalife International – direct-marketing nutrition and weight management company based in California.
  5. Longaberger – the company is based in Ohio and is famous for its handcrafted baskets.
  6. Mary Kay Cosmetics – most people know the story of Mary Kay Ash. She founded Mary Kay and opened the door for women around the world to pursue their dream of business ownership.
  7. Amway/Quixtar – perhaps the most famous of all direct marketing companies, Amway was founded in 1959. The company is well-known for its cleaning products. Recently, Amway began running national television ads featuring the voice of John Tesh
  8. PartyLite Gifts, Inc. – direct marketer of premium candles and candle accessories.
  9. Pampered Chef – direct seller of premium kitchen tools.
  10. Arbonne International – direct marketer of fine skin care products.
This month’s top gainers in the MLM Rankings were:
  • Tahitian Noni International – the company produces and sells products based on the Noni berry. Founded in 1996, last year sales exceeded $500 million globally.
  • Discovery Toys – manufactures and distributes high-quality developmental and educational toys.

MLMs are not for everyone. However, these days the wide variety of companies allows many people the freedom to pursue their dream of business ownership while they do something they enjoy.

Stay inspired!
