We Experience What We Focus On – The Affirmation Spot for Friday January 16, 2009

Today’s Affirmation:

“I believe in the future of humanity. I believe our species’ most prosperous, peaceful, and enlightened times are ahead. I am living my life in a way that turns that belief into reality.”

northfaceI’m probably about to expose how tragically unhip I am. So be it. Until two months ago, I had never heard of The North Face clothing company. My step-daughter asked for one of their jackets for Christmas this year.  I was oblivious to how “in” their clothing is right now.

We purchased her jacket. Over the past few weeks I have suddenly noticed The North Face clothing all over the place. I think I saw three people wearing their jackets just today. I’m sure people were wearing their clothing before the past few weeks. I simply had no reason to pay attention.

Have you ever noticed how once you become aware of something; you suddenly see it everywhere? It makes sense when you think about it. Ask a physicist and he will tell you that the world around us composed of a bunch atoms hanging in nothingness.

Your brain is a remarkable pattern recognition device. Somehow it transforms this mass of formless energy and into something comprehensible to you.

Amazing as it is, your brain does have limits. It cannot possibly make sense of all the information in that vast field energy. So it selects information that fits your conscious expectations. Before I had no conscious expectation of seeing The North Face and I didn’t see it. Our conscious awareness seems to unlock the code that allows us to notice what we expect.

The key here is that your brain works this way on more important issues too.

If your conscious expectation is that your life will be filled with negative people and negative experiences, that is precisely what you are going to see when you stare into the field of atoms.

Fortunately, when you expect positive people and experiences, your brain selects that information and that’s what you notice more of in your life. Expect success and that is what manifests. Expect happiness, health, or opportunity and your brain obliges.

You experience what you focus on. So watch your expectations. They are generating what information you choose to experience. And sorry, but now that I’ve planted the seed you are going to see The North Face brand everywhere too!

Stay inspired!

    1. Thank you for your comment. I’m very familiar with The Secret. I am very sympathetic to its message. Lots of good information. It has taken many wonderful existing ideas and packaged them in a very exciting way that speaks to the masses.
